Chelsea have climbed above Paris Saint-Germain to become the favourites to sign Inter Milan star Achraf Hakimi, Football Insider understands.
The 22-year-old is wanted by the two giants who have both offered £56.1million to the Italian club.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Inter have knocked back the bids as they hold out for a fee of £68.8million.
His valuation has rocketed by £29million in the year since he was signed from Real Madrid.
Football Insider understands personal terms will not be an issue for Chelsea in a potential deal for Hakimi as they have already agreed that with the player.
The Blues have an advantage over PSG in talks with Inter, as they have players to offer in part-exchange or who could head to the Serie A champions in separate deals.
Chelsea have done extensive background checks on Hakimi and are convinced he is the ideal fit for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
The full-back was one of Antonio Conte’s standout players in the 2020-21 campaign.
He contributed seven goals and 10 assists in 37 league appearances.
Speaking on his future in April, Hakimi told La Repubblica: “I hope to stay at this club for a long time, I’m very happy.”
However, with Inter Milan in financial difficulty the defender has been given the green light to leave this summer if a club matches his valuation.
Hakimi has four years remaining on his contract at the San Siro.
